Meeting Dates
MISSION STATEMENT
To create a more vibrant and cultivated community by:
- Serving as communication channel
between the business and industrial economic interests in Roxbury Township and the municipal government;
- Serving as an ombudsman between the
municipality, its agencies and officials and the business and industrial
interest through the investigation of areas of mutual concern, the
reporting of the facts surrounding areas of interest, and when necessary,
the mediation or opposing viewpoints;
- Encouraging the economic well-being
and expansion of the existing businesses and industries located in the
Township;
- Developing and maintaining the
information, literature and data to assist businesses and industries in
their expansion and/or relocation of businesses and industries;
- Reviewing Township ordinances,
policies, and practices to determine their impact on existing and proposed
businesses and industries and to make recommendations to the appropriate
Township agency for their revision if these revisions would facilitate the
economic expansion of the Township
GOALS AND STRATEGIES
PROMOTE
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESS INTERESTS
Objectives and Tactics:
a) Work with business
interests to assess their needs.
b) Work with Roxbury
Town Council through a liaison to inform local govt. of needs of business
interests.
c) Mediate opposing
viewpoints.
ACT AS A
RESOURCE FOR PRESENT AND NEW BUSINESS INTERESTS
Objectives and Tactics:
a) Investigate areas of mutual concern.
b) Report facts surrounding areas of mutual interest.
c) Obtain site selection criteria of new businesses
interested in coming to Roxbury.
d) Work with Planning and Zoning Boards to assess any necessary
changes to further economic development.
e) Collaborate with businesses and local media to develop
additional coverage of business issues and opportunities in the area.
FACILITATE
THE RETENTION AND EXPANSION OF EXISTING BUSINESSES
Objectives and Tactics:
a)
Reward excellence in local businesses
through bi-annual Business Awards.
b)
Implement a business visitation program and
conduct an “Existing Business Retention and Expansion Survey” to be returned by
at least 50 local businesses describing their projected growth and challenges
to growth. The Economic Development Committee will advise and assist
staff in this effort.
c)
Identify 10 existing businesses each year
interested in expansion opportunities and act as a liaison to personalized
services available within the community.
NEW BUSINESS
RECRUITMENT
Objectives and Tactics:
a)
Market the benefits of the Roxbury area as a
competitive location for targeted business.
b)
Developing marketing programs will be focused
on leveraging Roxbury’s economic strengths.
c)
Provide firms interested in locating or
expanding in the Roxbury area with “One Stop Shopping” economic development
services to enhance their experience.
d)
Promote all available commercial sites and
buildings in the Roxbury area.
e)
Review site selection criteria publications
and establish a database that compares Manhattan area strengths and amenities
to desired criteria.
LEADERSHIP
DEVELOPMENT
Objectives and
Tactics:
a)
Recruit, educate and motivate community
leaders, elected officials, and residents regarding economic development and
other important community issues through an innovative series of seminars and
workshops.
b)
Utilize the information of community leaders
to prepare a listing of topics encompassing economic development and other
community issues of importance. The community leaders should assist in
preparing the individual seminars seeking presenters and other activities
associated with conducting the individual seminars.
CREATE
PRO-BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
Objectives and Tactics:
a)
Continue to work with Township and Morris County to carry out Comprehensive Land Use and Development Plan for the Roxbury
area.
b)
Identify and resolve circumstances that
inhibit existing business’ growth and streamline services and operations that
effect business.
c)
Ensure the continued availability of all economic
development tools for support of existing businesses and recruitment of new
ones. (i.e. Tax Incentive Financing, Tax Abatements, Grants, Financing,
Investment Capital, and others).
d)
Work with local realtors to look for regional
synergies in the areas of marketing, attracting business, and other program
areas such as workforce development.
