Fall 2014 Programs and Activities:

For some fall fun, check out the 'Township Parks and Playgrounds' page and visit all of the parks in town! Several parks have recent improvements; Horseshoe Lake Beach has a new sprinkler park, Kiwanis Park has resurfaced tennis courts, Berkshire Valley Park has a new tennis court and a court marked for street hockey, basketball and Foursquare, and Black River Park has a new picnic area with benches.The Dog Park at Emmans Road has been improved, and there is a new trail in Landing called the Ice Age Trail... Check it out!

Lung Cancer Walk
Free To Breathe walk at Horseshoe Lake will take place on Sunday, September 21st at 11am. More information at www.freetobreathe.org.

Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. This running program is coming to Roxbury in mid-September for girls in 3rd-5th grade. Days will be Tuesdays and Fridays, 4:15pm-5:30pm; program is 11 weeks long. Fun, Fitness and Friendship
This fun and enthusiastic class is offered to kids in K-4th grade.  Classes are held Wednesdays, September 24, and October 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 4pm-5pm. Safety, fair play, fair competition, and sportsmanship is incorporated in all games.  The non-stop action includes Jurassic Park, Popcorn Dodge-Ball, Four Corners, Freeze Dance, Jump Rope, Bean Bag Games, Line Game, and much more.  Please bring a drink and snack to class.  Location: Horseshoe Lake Gym. Instructor:  Bob Capra, 6th grade teacher at L/R. Register in-person at Roxbury Recreation. Fee: $55; check payable to Roxbury Clinics.

Children's Bowling League
Sign up to bowl for Wednesday sessions, 4pm-5:15pm.  Registration begins on September 8th. Sessions run from November 12th through March 18th, with a total of 16 dates. Two programs are offered: Bumper Bowling, K-3rd grade, three per team and Regular Bowling, 4th-8th grade, four per team. Location: Circle Lanes, 1113 Route 46 East, Ledgewood. One parent from each team must be present each week. Fee: $10, in-person at Roxbury Recreation; includes t-shirt. Game Fee: $6 per week, includes shoe rental and two games of bowling.

Fall Basketball
Registration begins September 8th, in-person at Roxbury Recreation or online. Click Fall Basketball for more information.  Coaches needed too! The following programs are available:

Jr. Gaels Wrestling
This program is for children K-8th grade who want to learn to wrestle and compete with kids of same age and weight. Wrestling emphasizes the value of sportsmanship, poise, goal setting, discipline, and work ethic. Sign up in person at Roxbury Recreation or online. Program begins in mid-November.   • K-1st Grade Clinic: Teaches fundamentals and basic techniques to beginners. Friday evenings, 5pm-6pm, on Dec 12, 19 and Jan 9, 16, & 23 at RHS Aux Gym. Fee: $40; t-shirt included.
  • 1st-4th Grade Novice: To be eligible, child must have attended Clinic Program. Intermediate program teaches athlete the beginner levels of competition. Practices will be Wednesdays and Fridays, 6pm-7:30pm. Fee: $70; sweatshirt included.
  • 2nd-8th Grade Jr. Gaels: Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm-8pm. This team will compete in the Tri-County League. Fee: $70; sweatshirt included.

Roxbury Rebels Girls Softball
Tryouts for the 2015 team are Sunday, September 21st at the Roxbury High School Softball Fields. Please click Rebels for flyer and info.

Adventure Boot Camp
Boot Camp for Women is an outdoor workout (with alternate indoor location for rain) that develops cardio, core, and muscle endurance with a focus on fat burning exercise techniques. PlaySMART Preschool/Kindergarten Enrichment Program
Play University's program is designed for children ages 3 1/2 to 6. PlaySMART is a 6-week, brain-boosting program that combines sports, fitness, academics and fun all into one. By choosing to PlaySMART, each child must 'think' their way through fun-filled activities that teach sports skills and build fitness fundamentals while creatively integrating academic concepts. A different sport and academic element is introduced and taught weekly. Location: Horseshoe Lake Recreation Complex. Dates/Times: Tuesdays-10:30am-11:30am, September 16-October 21(rain-date October 28) or Wednesdays 1:30pm-2:30pm, September 17-October 22, (rain-date October 29th). Roxbury Garage Sale at Horseshoe Lake
Saturday, September 27th, 8am to 4pm at Horseshoe Lake Park. Admission is free, and event is rain or shine. Homeowners are invited to purchase a 12'x12' space for $25 each. Food vendors will be available under the Pavilion. For more information and registration, please view flyer at Garage Sale.

Scoutdoor Expo
A free event for the entire family...not just scouts! Saturday, October 4th, 10am-4pm at Horseshoe Lake. Campfire cooking demonstrations, pioneering projects, mounted police, med-evac helicopter landing, fishing and equestrian demo, Civil War exhibit, and more! Check out Scout Flyer for more info.

Lake Hopatcong Foundation's Lake Loop 2014
On Sunday, October 12, 2014, enjoy the breathtaking views of Lake Hopatcong on a scenic bike ride or 3 mile walk to raise funds for NJ's largest lake! Rides are 20 mile or 40 mile routes.
