Spring 2014 Programs and Activities:

PlaySMART University
This 8-week program is designed for children ages 3 1/2 to 6 years.  Two outdoor programs will be offered: Tuesdays, April 15th-June 3rd 1:30-2:30 or Fridays, April 18th-June 6th, 10am-11am. PlaySMART combines sports, fitness and academics all into one; each child must 'think' their way through fun-filled activities while learning new sports and academic fundamentals.  For more information, visit

Girls Spring Lacrosse Skills Camp
Join Instructor Kayla Henderson, Roxbury Girls Lacrosse Junior Varsity Coach, for a 5-session skills camp. This program is for girls currently in 2nd-4th grade. Dates are April 22nd, 29th, May 6th, 13th, and 20th, 5pm-6pm.  The camp will be held Bryant Drive Field, at the entrance of the Roxbury High School. Every participant will receive a lacrosse stick and a t-shirt. Please register online or in person at Roxbury Recreation. Fee: $60. 

Free Trees!
Roxbury is taking part in the NJ Tree Recovery Program. Seedling trees will be available at the Rec Center on Arbor Day, Friday, April 25th, 9am-4pm, as supplies last. Max of 5 seedlings per family. If supplies are available, seedlings will also be available on Saturday, April 26th at Black River Park's Clean-Up Event (see below).

Black River Park Clean-Up Event
Come by the Black River Park on Saturday, April 26th, 9am-12pm and BYOC/K (bring your own canoe/kayak). This event will take place both on land and on the water. Bring a net or rake to help with the collection of trash around this beautiful park and pond. More info and registration at www.hikeroxbury.org

Girls Volleyball Clinic
This program is for girls presently in 5th-8th grade. The clinic will be held on the following Mondays: April 28; May 5, 12, 19; June 2. Hours are 4:30pm-5:45pm at the Roxbury High School Gym. Instructors are RHS Varsity Coach Beth Grasso, along with Sebastian DiPietro and Anthony McMichaels. Registration is online and in person at the Rec Office. Fee: $65, includes t-shirt.

Fun, Fitness and Friendship
This fun and enthusiastic class is offered to kids grades K-4.  We will incorporate safe games, fair play, fair competition, and sportsmanship to all games.  The non-stop action includes Popcorn Dodge-Ball, Guard the Pin, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Line Game, Four Corners, and more.  Please bring a drink and a snack to each session. Sessions will be on Wednesdays on the following dates: May 7, 14, 21, 28, and June 11 & 18, 4pm-5pm. Location: Roxbury Recreation Gym. Instructor:  Bob Capra. Taste of Roxbury
Save the date! Taste the finest foods your local restaurants have to offer on Monday, May 19th at Junction 46.  Time is 6:30pm-8:30pm. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Roxbury Recreation. Visit www.roxburynjchamber.org for more information.

Horseshoe Lake Fishing Derby
Save the date! The derby will be on Saturday, June 7th, 8am-10am for children ages 1 through 15. No fishing badges required.

Summer 2014 Programs and Activities:

Lifeguarding Courses
Three American Red Cross Lifeguarding Courses are now available.  For information on classes offered June 17th-26th, click on ARC Lifeguard June. For information on classes offered June 30th-July 18th, click on ARC Lifeguard July.  For information on review class offered June 7th and 14th, click on ARC Lifeguard Review.  Registration at the Recreation Office only.

Teen Travel 2014
This exciting program is open to all Roxbury and Mount Arlington children who are currently in 6th through 9th grade.  Four sessions are offered; Session 2 still has openings. Each session is five days long. The camp hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm.  Each week is filled with fun daily adventures to places such as Branchburg Sports Complex, Turtleback Zoo TreeTop Aerial Adventure, Camelbeach Waterpark, and more!  For details on each session, view flyer by clicking Teen Travel 2014. Register online or in-person at the Recreation Office. Fee:  $225 per participant per session, t-shirt included.  NEW THIS YEAR! Early Morning Drop-Off, 7:30am-8:30am, $35 per session. Total fee per session, $260 per child. Registration is available online as a total package.

Day Camp 2014

Camp Capra 2014
This fun and enthusiastic camp is open to Roxbury and Mt. Arlington children currently in K-7th grade. Six sessions are offered; each session is one week long. Sessions begin on June 26th, and run through August 15th. Sessions 1 and 2 still have openings! Enjoy games, arts & crafts, field trips and water games with Mr. Capra, a 6th grade Roxbury teacher. Location: Lincoln-Roosevelt School. Hours: 9am - 3pm, Monday to Friday. For details on dates and more information on what is offered, click Camp Capra 2014. Playground Program 2014
This fun 5-week program is offered to Roxbury and Mt. Arlington kids who are currently in K-7th grade. There are two available locations to choose from: Jefferson School or Nixon School (Kennedy School is full). Program begins on Thursday, June 26th and goes through Friday, August 1st (no program on July 3/4). Hours are 9am-12 noon. Boys Basketball Camp
Each day, campers will participate in skills stations, skill competitions, team play and lectures on basketball fundamentals and sportsmanship.  Basketball skills and fundamentals will be stressed for each age group. Staff includes Roxbury High School Boys Basketball coaches and current Roxbury High School players.  Guest speakers include local high school and college coaches. Register by attached form only; no on-line registration.
-Boys presently in K-1 grade: Camp dates are June 25-27, 9am-11am at EMS Gym. Fee: $40 per participant; includes t-shirt. For more info and registration form, click K-1 BBall.
-Boys presently in 2-4 grade: Camp dates are July 14-17, 8:30am-12:30pm at RHS Gym.  Fee: $75 per participant, 2nd child $60; includes t-shirt.  For more info and registration form, click 2-4 BBall.
-Boys presently in 5-8 grade:  Camp dates are July 7-11, 8:30am-2:30pm at RHS Gym.  Fee:  $120 per participant, 2nd child $95; includes t-shirt. For more info and registration form, click 5-8 BBall.

Goal to Goal Soccer Training Camp
Boys and girls presently in 4th-8th grade are eligible for this camp. The ultimate purpose of this camp will be to train each player to better understand and meet the responsibilities as a team member. Technical and tactical functional training will enhance each individual's ability. Staff includes Roxbury High School Head Coach Gary Irwin, as well as RHS coaches and players. Camp is Monday, June 30th -Thursday, July 3rd, 5pm-8pm at the Roxbury High School Complex. Fee:  $85; includes camp t-shirt. For registration and additional information, click Goal to Goal.

Future Gaels Fundamental Baseball Camp
Boys entering 4th through 9th grade in September are eligible for this camp. Campers will receive instruction in the following areas: hitting, infield play, outfield play, pitching, catching, form running, team concepts, and scrimmage games.
     - 4th-6th grade: June 30, July 1-3, 9am-1pm
     - 7th-9th grade: July 14-17, 9am-1pm
Roxbury High School's Varsity Baseball Coach Greg Trotter runs the camp, along with current members of the Roxbury Assistant Coaching Staff, and former Roxbury players. For additional info and registration form, please click Baseball Camp. Fee: $125; $225 for brothers.

Jr. Gaels Cheerleading & Pom Poms 
-Pom Poms This program is for girls currently in 1st grade. Fee: $50.
-Cheerleading This program is for girls currently in 2nd through 7th grade. Fee: $65.
-Practices will be held August 5th through August 28th, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays,
  5:30pm-8pm, at Horseshoe Lake Complex.
-Camp dates are July 28th-July 31st, 4pm-8pm, Jefferson School. Fee: $65.
-Registration for these programs in-person only at the Recreation Center. 

Girls Basketball Camp
For girls entering 3rd-8th grade in September. Camp staff includes Roxbury High School Girls Basketball coaches and players. Basketball skills and fundamentals will be stressed for each age group. Each day campers will participate in skills stations, skills competitions, team play and lectures on basketball fundamentals and sportsmanship. Camp dates are June 25, 26, 27, 30 and July 1st, 8:30am-2:30pm, at the Roxbury High School. For registration form and information, please click on Girls Basketball. Fall 2014 Programs and Activities:

Instructional Flag Football Clinic
This program is for children ages 5 through 1st grade as of September 2014. It includes learning the fundamentals of flag football. No experience necessary. The program will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning August 25th at the Horseshoe Lake Fields, 6pm-7:15pm. Coaches needed too! Please register online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation. Fee: $50, includes t-shirt.

Jr. Gaels Football 
Open House Ice Cream Social planned for Saturday, March 15th, 11am-2pm at the Roxbury High School Cafeteria. It's a great opportunity to meet the coaches, and learn about the benefits of the program! Football practice will begin on August 4th, and will be held Mondays-Thursdays throughout August. Games will begin in September, and run through early November. For programs, please see below for eligibility as of the September 2014 school year:
      Pre-Clinic -             boys entering 3rd grade (must be age 8 by Oct. 1st)

NEW PROGRAM! NFL Flag Football
Join the team! This program is open to boys and girls in 2nd-5th grade as of September 2014. Pre-season practice begins August 25th for two weeks. Games are planned for Sundays, and 1-2 practices per week. A Flag Football Parents Meeting with Roxbury High School's Varsity Football Coach Cosmo Larusso is planned for Tuesday, April 29th at 7:30pm at the Senior Center.
