Fall 2014 Programs and Activities:

HOWLoween Fun Run
On Saturday, October 25, 2014, join the  Nixon School PTA at Horseshoe Lake Park for a fun morning including DJ, face painting, and games of chance. T-shirts guaranteed to first 500 registrants. Check-in at the Pavilion at 8:30am; Fun Run starts 10am. Register by October 18th at --$20/adult, $10/child, or on the day of fun run for $25/$15. Benefits Nixon School PTA & Roxbury Social Services. Halloween at R-R-Roxbury 
Bring your 'H-Haunted House' to the RHS track with your lil princess or ghoul for trick-or-treating fun! Thursday, October 30th; begin setting up your 'house' at 5:15pm, and trick-or-treating is 6:30pm-7:30pm. Prizes for the best houses!! Click Halloween for more information. Please pre-register at

Fall Basketball-Deadline is November 1st
Registration is currently open in-person at Roxbury Recreation or online. Click Fall Basketball for more information.  Coaches needed too! The following programs are available:

  • 5th-7th Girls Travel Team

Jr. Gaels Wrestling
This program is for children K-8th grade who want to learn to wrestle and compete with kids of same age and weight. Wrestling emphasizes the value of sportsmanship, poise, goal setting, discipline, and work ethic. Sign up in person at Roxbury Recreation or online. Program begins in mid-November. Registration is open online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation. More info on flyer.

  • K-1st Grade Clinic: Teaches fundamentals and basic techniques to beginners. Friday evenings, 5pm-6pm, on Dec 12, 19 and Jan 9, 16, & 23 at RHS Aux Gym. Fee: $40; t-shirt included.
  • 1st-4th Grade Novice: To be eligible, child must have attended Clinic Program. Intermediate program teaches athlete the beginner levels of competition. Practices will be Wednesdays and Fridays, 6pm-7:30pm. Fee: $70; sweatshirt included.
  • 2nd-8th Grade Jr. Gaels: Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm-8pm. This team will compete in the Tri-County League. Fee: $70; sweatshirt included.

Skills and Drills Basketball Clinic
This clinic is for boys and girls in 3rd-8th grades. Dates are November 4, 11, 13, 18 and 20th. Grades 6-8 will be held from 5-6pm. Grades 3-5 will be held from 6-7pm. RHS Coaches Deeb and Capra will be running the program at the Roxbury High School Gym.  Fee: $35.  Please complete the Skills and Drills form to register. 

Children's Bowling League
Sign up to bowl for Wednesday sessions, 4pm-5:15pm. Sessions run from November 12th through March 18th, with a total of 16 dates. Two programs are offered: Bumper Bowling, K-3rdgrade, three per team and Regular Bowling, 4th-8th grade, four per team. Location: Circle Lanes, 1113 Route 46 East, Ledgewood. One parent from each team must be present each week. Fee: $10, please register in-person at Roxbury Recreation; includes t-shirt. Game Fee: $6 per week, includes shoe rental and two games of bowling.

Guided Hike from Hedden Park in Randolph to Horseshoe Lake
On Saturday, November 1st, join the Morris County Parks Commission’s guides for a fall hike. We’ll meet at Roxbury's Senior Center at Horseshoe Lake, 72 Eyland Ave, Succasunna at 9am to car pool from Horseshoe Lake to Hedden Park at the Concord Road entrance and hike back to Roxbury. This hike is approximately 5.5 miles, and will take about 3 hours to complete. Remember to use tick spray, and bring water & snack. Gymnastics Inc.
Roxbury Recreation is sponsoring classes! Four levels are offered: Mommy-N-Me for ages 2-3 , Gymnastics Class for ages 3-5, Gym Ninja for Boys for ages 7-12, and Rhymthmic Gymnastics for ages 3-5 and 6+. Roxbury Recreation’s classes are November 5th-December 17th for a total of six weeks for a fee of $115. Please register by calling 973-252-4300; more info on flyer

RHS Ice Hockey Shredding Fundraiser
Support the Roxbury High School Ice Hockey Team while cleaning out your files!  Saturday, November 8, 2014, 10am-2pm at Horseshoe Lake Parking Lot. On a donation basis only. For more information, please contact 201-787-0238.

King Store and King Homestead Museum
These sites will be open on Sunday, November 9th, 2014, 
1pm-4pm, and are located at 209-213 Main Street, Ledgewood. Visitors to the King House Museum will see a new exhibit in conjunction with New Jersey’s 350th anniversary. One of the themes for the anniversary celebration is innovation in New Jersey, and the new exhibit presents information about innovation and innovators in Roxbury Township. Visit for info.

Italian Dinner Nite
Enjoy the taste of Italy with offerings of Stuffed Shells, Eggplant Rollatini, Chicken Piccata, Homemade Meatballs, Sausage & Peppers, Broccoli Rabe, plus more! Saturday, November 15th, 6pm-8pm at the Senior Center.  Reserve your seat by calling 973-557-3447. Sponsored by Roxbury Junior Gaels Wrestling Fundraiser. $12 per person. More info on flyer.

Harlem Wizards vs. Roxbury All-Stars
Always a fun night out! Saturday, November 22nd, 7pm-9pm at Roxbury High School. Roxbury All-Stars include Superintendent Dr. Patrick Tierney, along with school principals and teachers. Order tickets at or pick up at Roxbury Recreation; info on flyer. Tickets are $10 each, or $12 at the door. Benefits the Victoria Snoke Scholarship Fund.

Adventure Boot Camp
Boot Camp for Women is an outdoor workout (with alternate indoor location for rain) that develops cardio, core, and muscle endurance with a focus on fat burning exercise techniques. Held at Horseshoe Lake. Classes registering now for the fall. Please view flyer or visit for more info.

Winter 2014-2015 Programs and Activities:

Baby-Sitter Training
SmartSitter is a hands on, safety based program designed to teach young people, ages 11 to 16, the many skills of becoming a great babysitter.  Class is offered on Saturday, December 13, 9am-3pm at the Senior Center. SmartSitters extensive curriculum, taught by nurses and child care providers, covers the care of infants through school-age children.  Students receive a SmartSitter manual complete with family emergency forms, plus a SmartSitter certificate of completion.  Please check flyer for more info and registration form. Fee: $55.

Street Hockey
This program is for boys and girls in 1st through 6th grade.  Practice and game schedules are as follows:

  • 1st/2nd grade teams:  Saturday afternoons/some Thursdays at Horseshoe Lake Gym
  • 3rd/4th grade teams:  Sunday mid-day/some Thursdays at Lincoln-Roosevelt Gym
  • 5th/6th grade teams:  Sunday evenings/some Tuesdays at EMS Gym

Season begins end of January, and runs through March (will not conflict with basketball). Equipment needed is a helmet, hockey gloves, shin guards and hockey stick.  Registration begins November 3rd, online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation.  Fee: $70; includes t-shirt.

Spring 2015 Programs and Activities:

Boys Lacrosse
Boys Jr. Gaels Lacrosse is a travel program belonging to the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League. This program is for boys in 2nd-8th grade. Program begins in March, and runs through June.
New players are required to come for in-person registration on Saturday, October 25th, 10am-2pm at the Recreation Office; uniform and helmet sizing and ordering will also take place. Current players can register online or in-person at Recreation Office; new players must register in-person. Girls Lacrosse Signups
Come join the "fastest sport on two feet".  Teams will be formed with the following grade levels: Grades 7/8, Grades 5/6 & and Grades 3/4.  Practices are 2-3 times a week at Roxbury High School fields (usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) with games once a week.  Season runs April 1st through mid-June.  Fee includes practice pinnie and 12 game season in league (Jersey Girls Lacrosse Association).  Registration deadline is December 15th with a $25 late fee for registrations after this date.  We are looking for parents to be assistant coaches to our certified head coaches.  Please register online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation. For further information, please contact Debbie Shulkowski at 862-251-4233.
