Fall 2014 Programs and Activities:

Holiday Wreath Decorating Contest-Extended Deadline to 12/3!!
Plan a fun, creative way to enjoy the holiday season this year, by submitting a wreath in this great contest! All are welcome to join in… residents, local merchants, churches, civic organizations, local sports teams, clubs, families, individuals… Benefits Social Services and Boy Scout Troop 163. Roxbury Winterfest Events
Enjoy a weekend of festive events taking place in Roxbury on the weekend of December 5th. Click Winterfest for flyer containing all of the info you need!

K-1st Grade Wrestling Clinic
Teaches fundamentals and basic techniques to beginners. Friday evenings, 5pm-6pm, on Dec 12, 19 and Jan 9, 16, & 23 at RHS Aux Gym. Sign up in person at Roxbury Recreation or online.Fee: $40; t-shirt included.

Children's Bowling League
Sign up to bowl for Wednesday sessions, 4pm-5:15pm. Sessions run from November 12th through March 18th, with a total of 16 dates. Two programs are offered: Bumper Bowling, K-3rdgrade, three per team and Regular Bowling, 4th-8th grade, four per team. Location: Circle Lanes, 1113 Route 46 East, Ledgewood. One parent from each team must be present each week. Fee: $10, please register in-person at Roxbury Recreation; includes t-shirt. Game Fee: $6 per week, includes shoe rental and two games of bowling.

Gymnastics Inc.
Roxbury Recreation is sponsoring classes! Four levels are offered: Mommy-N-Me for ages 2-3 , Gymnastics Class for ages 3-5, Gym Ninja for Boys for ages 7-12, and Rhymthmic Gymnastics for ages 3-5 and 6+. Corrente Strong Event
On Saturday, November 29th from 6pm-9pm, please attend a very special evening where all ages can come and celebrate local Coach Mike Corrente.  He coached Roxbury Rebels Softball as well as Roxbury Wrestling.  We are going to get physical in some way just as he would have loved it: open gym, cages to hit and field, the weight room will be open, with various games and competitions going on all night.  All funds donated directly to the Corrente Children’s College Fund. Event will be held at West Morris Baseball/Softball Academy, 11 Middlebury Blvd, Suite 13-16, Randolph. $15 donation. More info on flyer.

11th Hour Rescue Collection
Please donate pet items to support 11th Hour Rescue. Needed are dog/cat food, paper towels, newspaper, old towels, dish detergent, bleach, collapsible crates, garbage bags, dog/cat toys. Collection bins located at Town Hall and Roxbury Recreation. Sponsored by Troop 6207 Silver Award.

Adventure Boot Camp
Boot Camp for Women is an outdoor workout (with alternate indoor location for rain) that develops cardio, core, and muscle endurance with a focus on fat burning exercise techniques. Held at Horseshoe Lake. Classes registering now for the fall. Please view flyer or visit for more info.

Winter 2014-2015 Programs and Activities:

A Salt House Christmas, plus King House and King Store Festivities
On Friday, December 5th between 6pm-9pm, visit Main Street in Ledgewood for seasonal enjoyment. At the Silas Riggs Saltbox House, 213 Main Street, enjoy an old-fashioned soup supper and cornbread baked on 18th century hearth, plus desserts. A 32-year tradition. Adults, $10, Children, $5. Sponsored by Roxbury Township Historical Society, Inc. Free admission to tour the Saltbox House. At the King House and King Store, 209 Main Street, Ledgewood, see luminaries, decorations and popular musician, Claire Reynolds with her ingenious mechanical toys. Santa Land
Come to the Roxbury Library on Sunday, December 7th to see Santa arrive on a firetruck! Event takes place 2:30pm-4:30pm. Pics with Santa; $5 recommended donation for pics to benefit Social Services.  Craft fun too. Sponsored by Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce and Roxbury Library. See flyer for more information.

Operation Toy Train-Toys for Tots
On Saturday, December 13th, special trains will run in Northern NJ to collect donated toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign. Residents can drop off new, unwrapped toys, board the train caboose to see Santa Claus, experience a variety of working railroad equipment, and meet members of the Marine Corps and Operation Toy Train. Locations and times for Saturday, December 13th are: 11:30pm-12pm at Morris Marine, 745 Route 46 West, Kenvil; 12:15pm-1pm, Sleepy's, 294 Route 10 West, Ledgewood. The train will also be on display at Kuiken Brothers Lumber Co., 33 Rt 10 East on Sunday, December 14 from 10am-4pm. Visit for more info. 

Baby-Sitter Training
SmartSitter is a hands on, safety based program designed to teach young people, ages 11 to 16, the many skills of becoming a great babysitter.  Class is offered on Saturday, December 13, 9am-3pm at the Senior Center. SmartSitters extensive curriculum, taught by nurses and child care providers, covers the care of infants through school-age children.  Students receive a SmartSitter manual complete with family emergency forms, plus a SmartSitter certificate of completion.  Please check flyer for more info and registration form. Fee: $55.

Street Hockey
This program is for boys and girls in 1st through 6th grade.  Practice and game schedules are as follows:

  • 1st/2nd grade teams:  Saturday afternoons/some Thursdays at Horseshoe Lake Gym
  • 3rd/4th grade teams:  Sunday mid-day/some Thursdays at Lincoln-Roosevelt Gym
  • 5th/6th grade teams:  Sunday evenings/some Tuesdays at EMS Gym

Season begins end of January, and runs through March (will not conflict with basketball). Equipment needed is a helmet, hockey gloves, shin guards and hockey stick.  Registration begins November 3rd, online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation.  Fee: $70; includes t-shirt.

Play University
New classes available! Classes for age 3 ½-6 begin in January, and classes for ages 2-3 ½ begin in February. Information and registration available at More info on Play U flyer.

New Soccer Referee Certification Course
Course is for anyone age 14 and older (by the date of the course) who is interested in becoming a certified soccer referee.  Class is offered on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 8am – 4pm (snow date will be Saturday, February 28, 2015).  The course is taught by the New Jersey Referee Committee.  Contact Stuart Marcus, Referee Coordinator for the Roxbury Soccer Club at for registration information. Spring 2015 Programs and Activities:

Boys Lacrosse
Boys Jr. Gaels Lacrosse is a travel program belonging to the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League. This program is for boys in 2nd-8th grade. Program begins in March, and runs through June.
New players are required to come for in-person registration on Saturday, October 25th, 10am-2pm at the Recreation Office; uniform and helmet sizing and ordering will also take place. Current players can register online or in-person at Recreation Office; new players must register in-person. Girls Lacrosse Signups
Come join the "fastest sport on two feet".  Teams will be formed with the following grade levels: Grades 7/8, Grades 5/6 & and Grades 3/4.  Practices are 2-3 times a week at Roxbury High School fields (usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) with games once a week.  Season runs April 1st through mid-June.  Fee includes practice pinnie and 12 game season in league (Jersey Girls Lacrosse Association).  Registration deadline is December 15th with a $25 late fee for registrations after this date.  We are looking for parents to be assistant coaches to our certified head coaches.  Please register online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation. For further information, please contact Debbie Shulkowski at 862-251-4233.
