SPRING 2017 PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES:
Roxbury Recreation's Egg Hunt
Join EB for the annual Egg Hunt at Horseshoe Lake on Saturday, April 1, 2017! Over 2,000 eggs will be hidden. For ages 6-7, hunt for eggs at Imagination Station Playground at 10am. For ages 3-5, the hunt will be at the baseball field next to the playground starting at 10:20am. For ages 8-9, hunt for eggs at Imagination Station Playground at 10:40am. Remember a basket to carry found eggs, along with some candy treats. Bring a camera to catch a pic with EB. Find a special egg for a Grand Prize! (Rain date will be Saturday, April 8th.)
Spring Break Class
This fun and enthusiastic Spring Break Class will be offered to kids in grades Kindergarten-5th grade. Dates are Monday, April 17th through Friday, April 21st, 9am-12pm in the Franklin Elementary School Gym. Bob Capra, a Roxbury teacher, will be the instructor. Kids will be grouped by age and participate in a variety of activities. The daily gym activities will include: capture the flag, net games, pilo polo, popcorn dodgeball, and much more. In the Game Room-giant connect 4, board games, card games, and much more, plus computers. Each day will conclude with a large game of the Blob or Jurassic Park in the gym before pickup. Kids can bring a snack or lunch if desired. We will incorporate fair play and sportsmanship to all our games and activities. Checks Payable to: Roxbury Clinics. Gymnastics Inc. Programs
These programs are discounted for Roxbury Recreation residents. Over ten different classes are offered, for kids and adults. Classes include: Learn to be a Cheerleader for ages 5-7; Silks/Aerialist Class for children and adults; Country Fusion Adult classes; Mommy-n-Me Classes for 2-3 1/2 year olds; Gymnastics Classes for ages 3-5; and Back Handspring Classes for ages 7 and up. Join the "fastest sport on two feet"! Teams will be formed with the following grade levels: 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8. Practices are 2-3 times per week at Roxbury High School's Bryant Field (usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) with games once per week. Season runs April 1st through mid-June. Assistant coaches also needed to assist certified head coaches. Please register online or in-person at Rec Office by December 16th. Boys Jr. Gaels Lacrosse is a travel program belonging to the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League. This program is for boys in 2nd-8th grade. Program begins in March, and runs through June. NEW! Boys 2nd Grade Lacrosse Clinic
Learn the fastest growing sport from a Roxbury High School Coach. Fee: $95. Session starts April 2nd, and runs through May 20th. Send email to Fehsal@msn.com if interested.
Registration for the 2017 spring season is now open online for boys and girls in Pre-K through 8th grade. In-town teams, grades 1-8, and travel teams are $85, and registration closes on February 1, 2017; more info on flyer. Mighty Mites is for boys and girls in Kindergarten, with a fee of $40; more info on flyer. Mini Mites is for 4 yr-olds learning soccer; fee is $30; more info on flyer. Registration for Mighty Mites and Mini Mites closes on April 8, 2017. Register at www.roxburysoccer.com.
Registration is now open for ages 4-16. Register at www.roxbury-baseball.com. The season starts in early April, and runs through mid-June. Games/practices will be 1-2 nights per week, and Saturdays. For more info, please view flyer or email email@example.com.
Registration is open for Roxbury Girls Softball Association, ages 5-14. Roxbury partners with Chester and Long Valley Associations for a competitive league with multiple teams and divisions. Spring Track Clinic - 1st/2nd Grade
This program is designed to introduce children to the track program. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to run, jump or throw. Location: Roxbury High School Track. Season starts mid-March; practice will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with meets on Fridays. Coaches needed too! Register online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation for clinic and coaching. Children must be born in 2009 or later for this program. Fee: $45; includes t-shirt.
Spring Track - Bantam, Midget & Youth
This program is for children currently in 2nd through 8th grade, born in 2008 or earlier. It's designed for children who enjoy running track, whether at a recreational or competitive level. No experience is necessary; just a willingness to run, jump or throw. Season starts mid-March; practice will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with most meets on Sunday afternoons. Girls Volleyball Clinics
Learn to spike, set, pass serve dig and block with RHS coaches and former players at the Roxbury High School Gym. Clinic for 3rd/4th grade girls begins 5/17 for 4 sessions; fee: $50. Clinic for 5th/6th grade girls begins on 4/11 for 5 sessions; fee: $65. Clinic for 7th/8th grade girls begins 4/12 for 5 sessions; fee: $65. Register online or in-person at Roxbury Recreation. Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y Clinic The Roxbury Recreation Department is offering this Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth clinic on Tuesday, April 11th at the Senior Center, 6pm-9pm. This clinic is free to all Roxbury coaches. Registration is required, and is due by April 10th. Please register through your Community Pass account, or by completing the registration form. Stream Clean-Up at Black River Park
Join the Environmental Committee and Trails Committee to clean up this beautiful, scenic park. Ramsey Outdoor will be there with canoes for residents to use, to help collect trash from the pond's banks. Register for Saturday, April 22nd, 9am-12pm, at lack River Park, Main Street, Succasunna. Help to keep these waters trash-free! Register by April 4th to be guaranteed clean-up supplies. Registration is at www.raritanheadwaters.org. SUMMER 2017 PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES:
This fun 5-week program is offered to Roxbury and Mt. Arlington kids who are currently in K-7th grade. Registration will start online on Saturday, March 4th at 6am; camps fill up quickly! There are three locations to choose from: Jefferson School, Kennedy School or Nixon School. Program begins on Monday, June 26th and goes through Friday, July 28th (no program on July 3 or 4). Hours are 9am-12 noon. Register online through your Community Pass account. More info on flyer. Fee: $125 per participant; t-shirt included.
Registration will start for Camp Capra online on Saturday, March 4th at 6am; sessions fill up quickly! This program is for children currently in K-5th grade, Roxbury and Mt. Arlington residents only. There are six weekly sessions to choose from: June 26, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, and August 7, and all sessions are 9am-3pm. This program is directed by Bob Capra, a 7th grade Roxbury teacher. The camp's location is at Lincoln-Roosevelt School Gym. Each day includes fun, safe games, arts & crafts, local field trips, and outdoor activities. More info on flyer. Fee: $120 per week, t-shirt included.
Teen Travel-Session 4 has openings!
For tweens and teens presently in 6th through 9th grade who are looking for some fun and excitement with friends during the summer. There is one session with openings: July 24-28. Each day includes a different trip, like Great Wolf Lodge, Jenkinson's Beach and Boardwalk, and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, to name a few! Camp hours are 8:30am-4:30pm. Lego Summer Camp-Ages 5 to 6
Intro to STEM using LEGO Camp is August 14,-18, 9:00am - 12:00pm in the Teen Center at Roxbury Recreation. Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer designed projects such as Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults, and Merry-Go-Rounds. Then use special pieces to create your own unique design! New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Registration info on flyer. Fee: $145.
STEM Challenge using LEGO Camp-Ages 7 to 12
This camp is August 14-18, 1:00pm - 4:00pm in the Teen Center at Roxbury Recreation. Power on your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer designed projects such as Catapults, Pneumatic Cranes, Arch Bridges, and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level. Day Camp-all sessions full at this time
All Roxbury and Mt. Arlington 1st through 6th graders are invited to register for this fun camp, held at the Roxbury Recreation Center and Horseshoe Lake Complex. There are seven sessions to choose, from June 26 to August 11th. Hours are 8:30am-4:30pm. Included in the camp are daily activities such as sports, games, arts & crafts, plus special trip dates to destinations like Tomahawk Lake, Mountain Creek, and Turtleback Zoo. Fee: $185 per participant, per week (t-shirt included). More info on flyer.
This camp is for kids entering grades 2-8 in September, and is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of wrestling at a pace suitable for a young child. Dates are Monday, July 17th-Thursday, July 20th, 9am-1pm in the Eisenhower Middle School Cafeteria. Interactive games and drills will be introduced to help young wrestlers develop the balance and agility necessary for wrestling. Most importantly, campers will be grouped according to weight and experience to ensure the best match-ups. Each group will have counselors to teach, guide, and direct them in the essential wrestling skills needed to be successful in the sport. More info on flyer. Fee: $125.
Jr. Gaels Cheerleading & Pom Poms
Cheerleading levels are for girls in 2nd through 7th grade for the 2016/17 school year; fee: $65. The Pom Poms program is for girls currently in 1st grade; fee: $50. Registration for both programs is in-person only at the Rec Office on the following dates: Saturday, March 11th, 10am-12pm; Saturday, March 18th, 10am-12pm; and Thursday, April 6th, 6:30pm-8pm. There is a mandatory Parents Meeting on Wednesday, April 26th, 7pm in the Senior Center. Practices will be held August 8th through August 31st, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 5:30pm-8pm at Horseshoe Lake Complex. Cheer Camp dates are July 31st –August 3rd, 4pm-8pm, at Franklin School; fee: $65. More info on flyer.
Summer Employment Opportunities
Applications are being accepted at Roxbury Recreation for summer employment positions. Open positions include camp counselor positions, beach positions, and supervisory positions for summer camps. Please complete an application and send to Roxbury Recreation by March 17th. More info on application.
FALL 2017 PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES:
Jr. Gaels Football
For boys entering in 3rd through 8th grade as of September 2017. Practice will begin in August, and will be held Mondays through Thursdays throughout August. Games will begin in September, and run through early November. Registration opens on March 20th online and in-person at Roxbury Recreation. Deadline is June 17, 2017. Helmet, shoulder pads and uniform included; please supply football cleats (no screw-in cleats allowed). For additional information, please view flyer.
